City Books

citybooks Bucharest is in full production. The photo's for citybooks Bucharest by the Romanian photographer Christian Binder are already online.

Charleroi is an intriguing city whose industrial past is clearly still omnipresent, both in its street scenes as well as in the stories of its inhabitants. Partner of citybooks Charleroi is the Musée de la Photographie.

Chartres - ‘capital of light and perfume’ – has a rich history and its cathedral is to be found on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The official partner for this citybooks edition is the city council of Chartres.

In the summer of 2010, deBuren visited the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in South-Africa, with the support of ‘Vlaanderen Internationaal / de Vlaamse overheid’ (Flanders International / the Flemish government), in order to create a series of city portraits together with authors, photographers and video artists.

The first citybooks Graz are online in German and Dutch!

The residences in Poland will start in January 2012. Local partner for citybooks Lublin is Towarzystwo Edukacji Kulturalnej (TEK).

Five authors, a photographer and several video artists made a city portrait of the Queen of seaside resorts. Vrijstaat O. acted as a host for the artists, and took care of a public encounter with interviews and recitals.

Henriëtte Louwerse hosts the UK version of citybooks on behalf of The Department of Germanic Studies/SOMLAL (University of Sheffield) . She welcomes five authors, a photographer and a video artist  to create a unique portrait of the city of steel.

In the summer and autumn of 2011 Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, hosts the citybooks. Three Macedonian authors write a contribution for citybooks Skopje, as well as two authors from the Low Countries. citybooks Skopje will appear online later this year!

citybooks Tbilisi went ahead in January 2011. The Georgian capital, lying on the edge of the European continent, is a fascinating place both a cultural and historical sense, a place where East and west meet.

Five authors, a photographer and a video artist created a city portrait of Utrecht upon the invitation of deBuren. The residencies were made possible with the collaboration of the Stichting de Vrede van Utrecht (VvU) and the Stichting Literaire Activiteiten Utrecht (SLAU).
