Ingrid Winterbach

Ingrid Winterbach (Johannesburg, 1948) lectured at the Department of Creative Arts of the University of Stellenbosch and at the Department of Afrikaans-Dutch of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Since 2002 she is a full-time writer and visual artist. Her first five novels were published under the pseudonymn Lettie Viljoen, but with the publication of Buller se plan (1999) she started writing under her own name. Winterbach spent a year in the Netherlands (Utrecht) with her family (1996-97). With her novel Die boek van toeval en toeverlaat (2006), Winterbach won the M-Net Book prize for the second time, the W.A. Hormeyr Prize and the University of Johannesburg Fiction Prize. Die benederyk (2010) is her most recent novel. Dutch translations of her work are published by Cossee.
