Pascal Verbeken (1965) grew up in the Gent railway district known as Moscow. He is a journalist, writer and documentary maker. As a journalist he worked for Humo, Knack, De Morgen, the VRT and the RTBF. He was previously editor at De Standaard (1998) and Humo (1999-2010). His book, Arm Wallonië (2007) won the M.J. Brusse prize for the Best Journalism Book from the Nederlands Fonds voor Bijzondere Journalistieke Projecten and made the shortlist of the ABN AMRO Bank Prize for non-fiction. Arm Wallonië has been filmed as a documentary series and broadcast on Canvas and the RTBF. Pascal Verbekens’s new book Grand Central Belge. Voetreis door een verdwijnend land was published in December 2011.
