Chartres - ‘capital of light and perfume’ – is an hour’s drive to the southwest of Paris. The city has a rich history and its cathedral is to be found on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Among the writers residing in Chartres are the Flemish authors Bart Van Loo and Chris Van Camp along with the young Dutchman Jeroen van Rooij. Two writers originating from other citybooks cities will also be part of this edition. Marcin Wroński lives and works in the Polish city of Lublin where the first residences will take place at the beginning of 2012. Goce Smilevski has already written a citybook in his birthplace Skopje, the capital of Macedonia.
Lea Titz from Austria will provide images of Chartres. Having participated in citybooks Graz, she is the third participant of citybooks Chartres who ‘continues forwards’ via the network that exists between the various citybooks cities.
T
he official partner for this citybooks edition is the city council of Chartres, in this case the department of Culture. A public programme will be organised around each participant of citybooks Chartres in ‘Médiathèque l’Apostrophe’, situated in the Chartres Public Library, a monumental art nouveau building not far from the cathedral. You can learn everything about these activities via facebook, twitter and the news flashes on this website.
Thierry Plantegenet and Patrick Géroudet explain more about the project.
